He did pop the first aid kit open to get at a packet of antiseptic wipes so he could at least deal with the scraped arms as well as daubing at the place where his shoulder had been pierced by that shard of wood, he couldn't fully see the injury himself and couldn't determine whether it would need stitches or just a bit of gauze and tape.
